Another Thanksgiving Miracle

What do you do when it’s hunting season and you really don’t have the time or the resources to hit the woods? If you’re me, you make a bow out of PVC pipe and mason string! I used some straight (well, straight as possible) sticks for arrows and sanded the knots out of them and sharpened the points. It’s not perfect, but it’s fun as hell. Check it out:

Volcano Beer!

This is a little late, but it’s been a busy week. We woke up Monday morning to some fermenting…alot of fermenting. So much so that the beer was bubbling up into the airlock, which is usually filled with sterile water or vodka. I prefer the vodka myself.

We didn’t know what the hell to do, so the Mrs. hit the internet for some info and apparently…. it’s cool. What we did was take the cap off the airlock and run a tube from the airlock into a sterile bucket to collect the excess beer so it wouldn’t go to waste. It turned out to not be much, but if preventive measures hadn’t been taken we coulda been cleaning homebrew off the ceiling.

Oh yeah, apparently this Oatmeal Stout is a double-racker. So hopefully we’ll get that done today.

More Beer

Last night was beer makin’ night here at the homestead. This time we went for an Oatmeal Stout, which sounds to me like the perfect cold weather beer. Here’s the Missus checking the specific gravity. I kept reading about 15% alcohol, but she said that was waaay off. Hey, a guys gotta dream.

Here it is fermenting in the carboy. I took this picture this morning, and as of right now there’s no bubbles in the airlock. Some of the batches we’ve made start bubbling right away, and some don’t. That’s just how it works.

How many Becks Dark does it take to brew a batch of beer? I’m guessing six…

Psychotic Reaction

There’s something very liberating about acting like an idiot on a Sunday morning…in your front yard…while your neighbors are driving to church.

But mixing idiocy with sobriety is just a bad idea. Trust me on that one.
